The Childhood of Paris
King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy had sons Hector and Paris. When Paris was a baby, Hecuba dreamed of a burning brand destroying the palace. The oracle said Paris would destroy Troy, so Priam ordered him killed. A servant left him in the woods; a hunter raised him. Paris grew strong and won athletic prizes in Troy, where his sister Cassandra recognized him. The king welcomed him home. Paris sailed to Sparta, where King Menelaus's beautiful wife Helen fell in love with him. Paris took Helen to Troy, and Menelaus vowed revenge.
