The Adventures of Jason
Pelops became master of the peninsula (Peloponnesus). Some Greeks, driven from their homes, formed colonies in Asia Minor and Italy. Robbers and wild beasts made travel dangerous, so heroes arose to fight them. This was the Heroic Age. Fifty heroes sailed on the Argo to Colchis seeking the Golden Fleece, guarded by a dragon. Jason led them, and they returned with treasure and the king's daughter. The Golden Fleece story represents Greece's first major trading voyage to the East.
