The Foundations

Before proving anything, Euclid establishes his foundations: Definitions explain what terms mean (point, line, angle, circle). Postulates state what we are allowed to do (draw a line between points, extend a line, draw a circle). Axioms (Common Notions) state self-evident truths (things equal to the same are equal to each other). From these simple beginnings, Euclid will build all of geometry.
