Alexander at Jerusalem
Darius fled beyond the Tigris. Alexander marched south, taking Damascus and Sidon. Tyre, on an island, refused to surrender. Alexander built a causeway; storms destroyed it; he rebuilt. When Tyre fell, he crucified many citizens. Then he marched toward Jerusalem to punish the Jews for helping Tyre. The high priest Jaddua had a vision: an angel told him to lead the Levites in festal robes to meet Alexander. Alexander dismounted and knelt before Jaddua, worshipping the holy name on his vestments. He explained he had seen Jaddua in a dream in Macedon, promising victory. He entered the temple, offered sacrifice, and saw his conquests foretold in Daniel and Zechariah.
