Death of the Conspirators

Harmodius and Aristogiton planned to kill both tyrant brothers during a festival procession. They killed Hipparchus but failed to reach Hippias. Harmodius was killed on the spot; Aristogiton was captured and tortured. A woman named Leaena bit off her own tongue rather than betray the other conspirators. The Athenians later honored the tyrannicides with statues.
