The Jealous Athlete

Near Milo's statue stood that of Theagenes, another great athlete. A jealous rival visited the temple daily to curse and shake Theagenes' statue. One night he shook it so hard that it fell and crushed him. The judges put the statue on trial for murder and condemned it to be drowned in the sea. When a plague broke out, an oracle said it wouldn't stop until the statue was restored. They fished it up and placed it back, and the plague stopped.
