Aristomenes' Escape

Aristomenes miraculously survived the fall into the Ceadas pit, landing on his dead companions. For three days he waited to starve. Then he felt a fox and grabbed its tail, following it to an escape hole. He returned to the Messenians, who were overjoyed. Despite his courage, Messenia finally fell to Sparta.
