The Brave Spartan Boy

Spartan boys were trained to steal without being caught, as practice for war. They were flogged at the Temple of Diana to test their courage. One famous boy hid a stolen fox under his cloak and let it bite him to death rather than reveal his theft. Boys were taught to give short, exact answers - the "laconic" style. Daily questioning sharpened their wits. They showed great respect to elders and trained in gymnastics to become strong.
